What is an insulated metal building?

An insulated metal building is a building built in lightweight construction, which was additionally provided with thermal insulation. The character of the metal building is naturally not lost, and quick assembly and disassembly is still possible. However, it is the case that in some applications simply can not tolerate frost or excessive heat, and moisture would also be a problem. By insulating a metal building, climatic influences can be easily kept outside and the interior provides exactly the desired temperatures and humidity.   

 

Insulation or thermal insulation makes sense especially when people work inside and stay there for a long time. For occupational safety reasons alone, certain climatic conditions must be ensured, which is usually not feasible without heating inside and the appropriate insulation thickness. Practical in this context is the possibility of integrating a solar system or photovoltaics and, of course, the windows and doors can also be extensively insulated to avoid cold bridges.

What are the advantages of insulated metal buildings?

If you decide to buy a MUCH metal building, you should directly think about whether it should be thermally insulated. The corresponding equipment is available at a reasonable price and can be taken into account from the very beginning of the construction process. Insulated metal buildings are much more efficient and less energy is lost, for example through heating.

How can insulated metal buildings be equipped?

One can already define the insulation or thermal insulation in of itself as an equipment feature of a metal building. The fact is that with regard to the roof, windows, doors, etc., some points must be taken into account so that the building remains insulated and no heat is lost. Choices still exist in sufficient form, however.

Roof and wall cladding

Roof and wall cladding depend on the intended use of a metal building. If it is insulated, a monopitch roof is suitable for photovoltaic systems. So-called insulated panels are recommended as wall cladding. These are sandwich panels with cores made of mineral wool, which also provide fire protection and noise insulation.

Gates

Heat loss is also possible in the area of gates. This is done, on the one hand, by choosing the appropriate materials, and on the other hand, by using high-speed doors that close quickly, thus avoiding drafts. Seals for thermal insulation are also available.

Doors

Doors are classically gateways for cold. Accordingly, variants with integrated insulation and/or made of matching materials are suitable for preventing cold intrusion. Of course, this is possible in different colors and with different designs.

Exposure

For lighting, both windows and light bands come into question. The latter can be cleverly integrated into the roof area or the upper part of the walls, saving energy. A continuous rooflight can also be installed in the ridge, or light domes set directly into the roof.

Canopies

Canopies come into question when a steel frame building is built. Their construction alone already allows for higher thermal insulation and is basically heavier and more solid. The canopy is the perfect entrance area or additional protection for goods stored outside.

Lighting

Lighting does not distinguish between an insulated or non-insulated metal building. To save additional energy, we recommend LED technology, which is mainly used in the interior and makes individual lighting concepts possible.

Buying an insulated metal building

The purchase of a metal building enables the proper and professional storage of goods that require constant temperatures. The purchase is particularly recommended when companies have built up high reserves and want to reduce liquidity. The advantage is that the metal building becomes part of the company's assets and can therefore be used indefinitely and without additional costs. The same applies to spontaneous conversions and dismantling or the possibility of resale. In this case, we offer favorable fixed prices, which include delivery and assembly if desired.

Arguments for renting

  

Renting an insulated metal building is preferable, for which there are several reasons. On the one hand, there is the greater flexibility. The rent is of course only due during the actual use and a dismantling or removal can take place at any time. Especially for temporary use, renting is advantageous and saves money compared to buying. In addition, a metal building that is not needed takes up space that is not available on every company site.   

 

Part of the rental price is the insulation of the building as well as a protection against temperatures below 5°C if desired. Furthermore, the metal building can be secured against condensation and frost and, of course, the risk of theft can be reduced. The rental payments are tax deductible and the rental price decreases the longer the building including insulation is rented.

Where can the metal building be used?

One thing first: an insulated metal building can of course be used in areas where a stable temperature is not necessarily required. Companies that work with different types of stored goods usually consider the thermal insulation as a welcome "add-on" and expansion of flexibility in use. The following areas come into question:

Frequently asked questions about insulated metal buildings

Do I need a building application for an insulated metal building?

If you want to erect an insulated metal building, you can usually do so without a building application. However, the prerequisite is a useful life of less than six months and the waiver of integration into an existing building or building complex. We always recommend prior consultation with the responsible offices and authorities in order to be on the safe side.

Does an insulated metal building need a foundation?

A foundation does not need to be excavated for an insulated metal building. Thus, we are talking about "flying structures", the fastening of which is done by means of dowels and so-called ground hooks. Do not worry: stability is still fully guaranteed, and even a metal building defies wind, weather and snow load.

Can the construction of the insulated metal building be deducted from taxes?

Of course, a metal building including insulation can be claimed in the form of business expenses. This applies to both the purchase and the rent and, in addition to the costs incurred directly, naturally also includes the energy supply and any repairs or conversions. 

How quickly can a warehouse be erected?

Whether insulated or not, warehouses can be erected within a few days and removed just as quickly. A rule of thumb says that an area of up to 2,000 square meters can be created in just one week. If you are thinking in smaller dimensions, it will of course go faster. Ask and find out when we can deliver the desired warehouse.

Do I have to take out extra insurance?

There is no legal obligation to insure a prefabricated warehouse with insulation. However, it is recommended to take out a policy for certain stored goods. Protection is available against natural hazards such as heavy rain, hail, etc. as well as against theft or vandalism. The exact contractual arrangements can only be enquired about individually and directly with the insurer. 

How is fire protection implemented?

With regard to fire protection for a metal building with insulation, there are various concepts. Smoke detectors and installed fire extinguishers are a matter of course, and escape doors are also possible. You can find out what the legal situation is in a consultation.

Can I heat and/or air-condition insulated metal buildings?

In the case of an insulated metal building, the insulation naturally favors the installation of heating and/or air conditioning. Thanks to the existing insulation materials, the energy is not lost so quickly and it is possible to maintain the desired temperature without major additional costs. 

How long can insulated metal buildings be rented?

With regard to the rental period, the arrangement is completely free. Of course, after a certain point in time, it is more advisable to buy, but we make sure that long-term rentals are also lucrative by offering favorable conditions. We are happy to be as flexible as you would like us to be.
